Output power vs perceived loudness
A 30W speaker (output_power_w) sounds dramatically louder than a 10W one — but a 60W speaker is only modestly louder than 30W. Loudness scales logarithmically. Driver size and enclosure tuning matter as much as raw wattage.
IP rating for outdoor use
IP67 (ip_rating) — dust-tight and submersible for 30 minutes — is now standard on premium portables (JBL Charge 6, Sonos Roam 2, UE Megaboom 4). Anything below IPX5 is for indoor use. If you take a speaker to the pool or beach, IP67 is the floor.
Battery: 12 hours is the floor
12 hours of mid-volume playback (battery_life_h) is the entry-level expectation. Boombox-class speakers (JBL Boombox 3, Soundcore Motion Boom Plus) hit 24+ hours. USB-C charging is now universal; older models still on micro-USB age poorly.

Bluetooth 5.3+ with LE Audio (LC3) is the new floor. AAC, aptX, and aptX Adaptive give better-than-SBC quality on supporting phones. Multi-point pairing lets one speaker switch between phone and laptop.
