Every tracker in this top ten has a heart-rate sensor, SpO2, sleep tracking and 5 ATM water resistance. Those are table stakes now, and they rank nothing.
Two of the ten have built-in GPS. That is the specification that decides whether a tracker can record a run without your phone in your pocket, and it is what separates the top of this list from the rest. Every figure below is the live computed Mars Score.
Highest score in the catalog: Coros PACE 3
Mars Score 83.2 at $229 — the most expensive device here. Built-in GPS, 17 days of battery, 39 g, with a 1.2" display and 20 sport modes.
Seventeen days with GPS is the combination nothing else on this page approaches; most GPS watches measure battery in days of a week or less. It is a running watch that we list as a tracker, and if you run it is the only serious answer here.
The other one with GPS: Fitbit Charge 6
Mars Score 77.4 at $159. GPS, 40 sport modes, 37 g, and 7 days of battery — the shortest on this page. A band form factor rather than a watch, with a small 1.04" screen.
Who should buy it: people who want phone-free run tracking in a band rather than a watch, and who charge things weekly anyway.
Best value in the catalog: Xiaomi Smart Band 10
Mars Score 76.1 at $49. A 1.72" display — the largest here by a wide margin — 21 days of battery, 16 g, and 150 sport modes, more than any other device on this page.
No GPS. For gym work, steps, sleep and heart rate — which is what most people actually use a tracker for — this is the best $49 in consumer electronics.
The Smart Band 9 scores 75.8 at $39 and differs only in a 1.62" screen. If you find it in stock, the $10 saved costs you a tenth of an inch.
The rest of the band field
Amazfit Band 7 (72.2, $49) offers 18 days and 120 sport modes at 28 g — heavier than the Xiaomis for the same money.
Huawei Band 10 (71.5, $69) is 14 g, the lightest device on this page, with 14 days of battery. The Band 9 (68.6, $59) is the same hardware with 9 days instead of 14 — the newer one is worth the $10.
Samsung Galaxy Fit 3 (70.9, $59) gives you a 1.6" screen and 13 days at 18.5 g, and integrates with Samsung Health in a way the others do not.
The one that does not fit the model: WHOOP 5.0
Mars Score 66.6 at $199. No display at all — the specification is recorded as zero, which is accurate — no GPS, 14 days, 21 g, and 10 ATM water resistance, double everything else here.
WHOOP sells recovery and strain analysis through a subscription, not a screen. Our model scores hardware, sees a screenless band, and ranks it ninth. That is a fair description of the device and a poor description of the product, and the subscription cost — which is most of what you pay over time — appears nowhere on this page.
Cheapest Fitbit: Fitbit Inspire 3
Mars Score 66.4 at $99. A 0.74" display, 10 days, 21 g, 21 sport modes — the fewest here — and no GPS. It is outscored by $39 and $49 bands on every specification except brand.
How to choose, in four questions
- Do you run outdoors without your phone? If yes, the list is two devices long: Coros PACE 3 or Fitbit Charge 6. If no, buy a $49 Xiaomi.
- Battery: 7 to 21 days. A tracker you charge weekly gets taken off and left off; one you charge every three weeks does not.
- Weight, 14 g to 39 g. You sleep in this. The Huawei bands are half the weight of the Coros.
- Sport modes are marketing. 150 modes versus 20 tells you nothing — the heart-rate accuracy behind them is what matters and nobody publishes it.
