G-Sync
NVIDIA's variable refresh rate technology. The original implementation required a proprietary scaler module in the monitor; G-Sync Compatible is the open VESA Adaptive-Sync version.
G-Sync syncs the display's refresh rate to the GPU's frame output, eliminating tearing and reducing stutter compared to fixed-refresh setups.
Tiers
- G-Sync Ultimate. Original module + HDR1000 + factory color calibration. Premium monitors only.
- G-Sync. Module-based, no HDR floor.
- G-Sync Compatible. No module — uses VESA Adaptive-Sync. NVIDIA certifies it works without flicker.
Compatibility
G-Sync Compatible monitors work with both NVIDIA (via Adaptive-Sync over DisplayPort/HDMI) and AMD (as FreeSync). For most buyers in 2026, G-Sync Compatible is the right tier — same experience, lower price, broader compatibility.
